ASUS VP32UQ Review: Decent 4K Monitor

As 2022 rolls around, 4K resolution monitors are becoming more and more commonplace. Gaming at such a high resolution requires some serious hardware to power it, but the results are often stunning. The ASUS VP32UQ is one such monitor, offering great image quality and gaming performance for a relatively affordable price tag.

We’ll be taking a look at what this monitor has to offer in terms of features, design, performance, and value. So, if you’re in the market for a new 4K monitor, read on!

Design and Style

Starting with the design, the ASUS VP32UQ has a fairly minimalist aesthetic. It’s a matte black finish with super-narrow bezels, which is becoming increasingly popular in the world of monitors. The stand is a glossy black plastic, which looks nice but feels a bit cheap. It’s a slim design, which is great for saving desk space, but it does mean that there’s no room for things like speaker placement.

The stand offers tilt adjustments (-5° ~ +20°), but there’s no height adjustment, swivel, or pivot. This is a bit disappointing, as most monitors in this price range offer at least some basic ergonomic adjustments.

In terms of build quality, the ASUS VP32UQ is about average. The plastic stand feels a bit cheap, but the monitor itself is solid. There’s no flex or creaking when adjusting the tilt, and the bezels are firmly attached.

All in all, it’s a good-looking monitor with a fairly standard design. It would look great in any setup, but the lack of ergonomic adjustments might be a dealbreaker for some users.

Picture Quality

ASUS VP32UQ Image Quality

Moving on to picture quality, the ASUS VP32UQ delivers excellent results. The 3840x2160p resolution at 31.5 inches results in a pixel density of approximately 140 PPI. This is more than enough for most users, and it results in sharp, clear images. The IPS panel also offers great viewing angles, with no significant image degradation at even the widest angles.

With regards to contrast, the ASUS VP32UQ offers a not-so-great 1000:1. This is to be expected with an IPS panel. Though it’s not a dealbreaker for most users, it would be better if it were a bit higher. The brightness, on the other hand, is excellent at 350 cd/㎡. This is more than enough for most users, and it results in images that pop.

As for color accuracy, the ASUS VP32UQ offers great results. The monitor covers 96% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and 100% of the sRGB color gamut. This results in rich, vibrant colors that are accurate to the source material.

Finally, the ASUS VP32UQ offers great results in terms of HDR support. It’s not true HDR, but it does offer great image quality nonetheless. The monitor is able to display a wide range of colors and has great black levels. This results in images that look stunning, even if they’re not true HDR.

Overall, the ASUS VP32UQ offers great picture quality. The 4K resolution results in sharp, clear images, and the color accuracy is excellent. The HDR support is a nice touch, even if it’s not true HDR. The only downside is the contrast ratio, which could be better.

Display Performance

ASUS VP32UQ Display Performance

Next, we’ll be taking a look at the display performance of the ASUS VP32UQ. starting with the refresh rate, the monitor offers a standard 60Hz. This is to be expected at this price point, and it’s more than enough for most users. Also, even high-end graphics cards today are struggling to achieve more than 60fps, so if you plan on 4K gaming, a 60Hz refresh rate is still decent.

The response time is excellent at 4ms (GTG). This is more than fast enough for most users, and it results in minimal motion blur. The input lag is also very low, which is great for gaming. And finally, the monitor also supports adaptive sync. This is great for gamers, as it helps to eliminate screen tearing.

I would say, it’s not the best in terms of 4K gaming, but it’s still decent. Also, gaming isn’t the only focus for this monitor as it does well in other activities too such as watching movies and general use.

Other Features

Low Blue Light

The ASUS VP32UQ monitor features a Low Blue Light (TÜV Low Blue Light) setting that helps to reduce the amount of blue light emitted by the display. Blue light has been shown to cause eye fatigue and strain, and the Low Blue Light setting on the ASUS VP32UQ helps to reduce these effects.

Flicker-Free Technology

Among others, the feature that makes this monitor outstanding is its Flicker-Free Technology design to reduce screen flickering. Additionally, it has been certified by TÜV Rheinland, thus ensuring that it adheres to the highest standards of safety and performance. This is an important consideration since extended exposure to screen flickering can cause eye irritation and even headaches.

Trace Free Technology

There also features ASUS’s innovative Trace Free Technology to eliminate ghosting and tracing artifacts for natural-looking images. This technology also minimizes input lag for a more responsive gaming experience.

SPLENDID Technology

The VP32UQ also incorporates Asus’ exclusive SPLENDID Technology, which optimizes image quality for a variety of different applications. SPLENDID Technology includes multiple display modes that can be accessed via a simple on-screen menu. These modes include Standard, sRGB, Scenery, Movie, Night View, Game, and Reading. Each mode is fine-tuned to produce the best possible image quality for the specific application.

The ASUS VP32UQ monitor also features the exclusive GamePlus Technology. This technology includes a crosshair overlay and an on-screen timer that can be activated via a simple on-screen menu. The crosshair overlay is great for first-person shooters, while the on-screen timer is perfect for real-time strategy games.

QuickFit Feature

It also features the exclusive QuickFit feature. This feature allows you to preview photos and documents on the screen before printing them. Simply activate the QuickFit feature via the on-screen menu, and then place a printed template over the screen. The template will then be used to adjust the image size so that it fits perfectly on the paper.

Built-In Speakers

The ASUS VP32UQ also features built-in speakers. These speakers are 2 watts each and offer decent sound quality. They’re not the best speakers out there, but they’re more than adequate for general use.

Anti-Theft Stand Lock Slot

The monitor also features an Anti-Theft Stand Lock Slot. This is a Kensington lock slot that can be used to secure the monitor to a desk or table. This is a great feature if you’re worried about someone stealing your monitor.

All in all, the ASUS VP32UQ is a great 4K monitor. It offers excellent image quality and low input lag, and it’s certified by TÜV Rheinland for eye safety. It also features a variety of exclusive Asus technologies that make it a great choice for both gaming and general use. If you’re looking for a decent 4K monitor, the ASUS VP32UQ should definitely be on your list.
