Core i7-12700K PC Build: High-End Gaming & Workstation

Proven to provide incredible gaming and workstation performance, the Core i7-12700K is right now one of the excellent choices for a high-end PC build. It even matches the more expensive flagship Core i9-12900K in gaming performance as well as beating the direct competitor Ryzen 7 5800X in many tests.

The RTX 3070 Ti is a graphics card that’s built for 1440p gaming. It can handle any game at higher frame rates on ultra-settings. If you have a high refresh rate monitor, the RTX 3070 Ti will be able to max out those games as well, so a 144hz or higher should not be a problem if your other hardware is up for it too.

For 4k resolution, the RTX 3070 Ti will do just fine but may not allow you to run everything smoothly, especially on ultra-settings.

An improved ray tracing core on the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is also worth mentioning. If you’re not familiar with ray tracing, it’s a rendering technique that makes lighting and shadows look more realistic in games. It’s something that has been used in movies for years but is only now starting to become popular in games. Although the use of ray tracing reduces performance, GeForce RTX 3070 Ti uses DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) to help offset this. DLSS is a technology that uses artificial intelligence to upscale games from a lower resolution to your native resolution. As a result, it reduces the load a bit as well as increases the performance.

It features a robust VRM power design that sports 20+1 power stages (each rated for 90A). It also features ProCool II power connectors, premium metallic capacitors, and MicroFine alloy chokes providing clean and stable power to your components. This motherboard is made to overclock! Though we don’t recommend overclocking the Core i7-12700K as it comes with an incredible performance out-of-the-box.

The VRM heatsinks have been optimized for thermal performance, and are coupled with an integrated aluminum I/O cover, high-conductivity thermal pad, dual backplates, and triple M.2 heatsinks. The ROG Water Cooling Zone allows you to easily monitor the flow rate and temperature of your water-cooling setup.

As this build will probably be used for high-end gaming and workstation, this motherboard has all the fastest connectivity options. It features an 80+ Gold rating, which means that it’s at least 87%-90% efficient. It has an EPS12V connector, ensuring compatibility with modern motherboards and graphics cards like the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti we use in this build, and it’s also 100% industrial-grade with a 105°C rating. This means that it will last much longer than your average PSU.

It also supports Modern Standby sleep mode, which allows for faster wake-from-sleep timings and better low-load efficiency.

There is also a 135mm fan with a custom fan blade design and magnetic levitation bearing to ensure it runs silently and reliably, while still providing enough airflow. In addition, there is Zero RPM at low-to-medium software loads via the PSU’s fan mode switch so it is whisper quiet when doing things like web browsing or word processing.

For the chassis, we choose the NZXT H510 Flow for a more minimalist and cleaner look.

Compared to the other NXZT case, this one provides a much better airflow with its perforated front panel. It also includes two AER F 120mm fans providing better airflow and easily allowing for water cooling with its radiator support. Moreover, it has a tempered glass side panel which is very nice to show off your hardware. The chassis is also white and black, which looks great with the other components we have chosen. It’s also quite compact (but supports Micro-ATX motherboards), so it won’t take up too much space on our desk.

The H510 Flow also has I/O support for USB 3.1 Gen 2 compatible USB-C so you can easily connect the high-speed peripherals and external storage. The filtered intakes with an easily removable magnetic cover prevent dust from building up in those hard-to-reach areas.

Lastly, PC builders will enjoy this case’s excellent cable management system, with pre-installed channels throughout the motherboard tray. By routing your power cables through the built-in straps, you will get a clean look overall.
