4K, yeah, is all the rage these days. Higher resolutions are better, right? More pixels mean more detail. Except that’s not always the case. Sometimes, more pixels just mean more problems. Take the world of video, for example. We’ve been through a few resolutions in the last couple of decades. Standard Definition (SD), Enhanced Definition (ED), and High Definition (HD) were all big steps up from what came before. But each one required new hardware and software to take advantage of the extra detail. Not to mention, more storage space and bandwidth to handle the increased file sizes.

The next step up from Ultra HD is, you guessed it, eight thousand pixels. That’s right – there are now TVs on the market with a horizontal resolution of 7680×4320 or about 33 million pixels in total. As you can imagine, this offers an incredible level of detail and clarity. However, it also requires an extremely powerful computer to run smoothly. For now, eight thousand pixel resolution is mostly used for high-end television and film productions.
