ViewSonic VX2768-2KP-MHD Review: Excellent 1440p Gaming Monitor

It’s never been a better time to game on a PC. Games today are more gorgeous than ever, and with the release of powerful graphics cards like the GeForce RTX 3000 series cards, high-quality gaming is becoming more and more common. Of course, prices for graphics cards as well as monitors have gone up as a result, but there are still ways to get great quality without spending an arm and a leg. ViewSonic’s VX2768-2KP-MHD is one such product.

This review will take a look at what this monitor has to offer and whether or not it’s worth your hard-earned cash.

Design and Style

Design-wise, the ViewSonic VX2768-2KP is a fairly typical monitor. It has a simple black chassis with silver trim on the stand. There are no design frills or extras; it’s just a basic monitor. Speaking of the stand, it’s very sturdy with little to no wobble. The monitor is also fairly thin, with borders that measure just 0.8 cm. This makes for a clean look, especially if you’re using multiple monitors side-by-side.

For the ergonomics, the ViewSonic VX2768-2KP is unfortunately not the best. There is no height adjustment, only tilt by -15° to 5°, and no swivel. This lack of adjustability can be a problem if you’re trying to find the perfect viewing angle. The good news is that the monitor is VESA compatible, so you can always mount it on a stand or arm if needed.

As for build quality, the ViewSonic VX2768-2KP is made entirely of plastic. This gives it a cheap feeling, especially when compared to monitors that have metal or glass in their construction. That being said, the plastic does not feel flimsy or fragile. The monitor feels solid and well put together.

Image Quality

ViewSonic VX2768-2KP-MHD Image Quality

Moving on with the image quality, the ViewSonic VX2768-2KP is a 27-inch monitor that uses an IPS panel with a maximum resolution of 2560x1440p. This puts it in the sweet spot for both resolution and size. Not to mention, 1440p is the perfect resolution for gaming. It’s high enough to provide great image quality but not so high that you need a powerful graphics card to run games at decent frame rates. The IPS panel also provides excellent viewing angles. This is great news for those who like to game with friends and family or for those who want to use the monitor for other tasks such as watching movies or working on documents.

Unfortunately, there are a few drawbacks to consider when looking at the ViewSonic VX2768-2KP. The contrast ratio is fairly low at 1,000:1, which is expected for an IPS panel but still disappointing. This can lead to some colors looking washed out, especially in darker scenes. Also, the ViewSonic VX2768-2KP does not have local dimming, which is a feature that allows the backlight to be dimmed in certain areas of the screen. This can improve contrast by making blacks appear darker and whites appear brighter. However, it’s not a necessary feature, and most gamers will never miss it.

The brightness on the other hand is good, coming in at 350 cd/m2. This is more than enough for most rooms.

As for color accuracy, the ViewSonic VX2768-2KP does a decent job. Out of the box, it covers 93% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, which is more than the 100% sRGB standard. This means that colors will be accurate and vibrant. If you’re a professional who needs absolute color accuracy, then you’ll need to calibrate the monitor since the calibration result on the ViewSonic VX2768-2KP is excellent, with no noticeable inaccuracies. However, for gaming and general use, there is no need for calibration as the colors on the ViewSonic VX2768-2KP are already great.

Display Performance

ViewSonic VX2768-2KP-MHD Display Performance

Now, let’s take a look at the display performance of the ViewSonic VX2768-2KP. The refresh rate is 144Hz, which is the sweet spot for gaming. This, combined with the 1ms response time, makes for a smooth and responsive gaming experience. There are 3 overdrive modes: Standard, Advanced, and Ultra Fast. Ultra-Fast is the best overdrive setting, reducing ghosting and motion blur. However, it can also introduce artifacts so it’s not for everyone. The good news is that you can always turn it off if you don’t like it.

The ViewSonic VX2768-2KP also supports both FreeSync and G-Sync, which is great news for gamers who want to avoid screen tearing and stuttering. The input lag on the ViewSonic VX2768-2KP is also excellent, coming in at just 4.1ms. This means that there will be no noticeable delays between your actions and what you see on screen. This is great news for gamers who need to have lightning-fast reflexes.

Other Features

The ViewSonic VX2768-2KP also has a few other features that are worth mentioning:

Gaming Modes

There are 3 gaming modes: FPS, RTS, and MOBA. These modes make slight adjustments to the image quality to provide an optimized gaming experience. You can access them via the on-screen display button.

Each mode is specifically calibrated to provide an optimized gaming experience for that particular genre. FPS mode, for example, enhances visibility in dark environments, while RTS mode reduces input lag and enhances clarity. MOBA mode, meanwhile, is designed to offer a more balanced approach between visibility and color accuracy. Whether you’re a competitive gamer or just looking for a more immersive gaming experience, the ViewSonic VX2768-2KP-MHD is definitely worth considering.

Flicker-free backlight

The ViewSonic VX2768-2KP-MHD uses a flicker-free backlight, which reduces eye fatigue during long gaming sessions.

Low blue light filter

The ViewSonic VX2768-2KP-MHD also has a low blue light filter, which protects your eyes from the harmful blue light emitted by the screen. This is especially important when using the monitor in dark environments.

Our Verdict for Gaming Use

I would say the ViewSonic VX2768-2KP-MHD is a great 1440p monitor for gaming. It has a high refresh rate of 144Hz, which is great for gamers who want to enjoy fast-paced action games without any screen tearing. Additionally, the monitor features Adaptive-Sync technology, which further reduces screen tearing and stuttering. The response time is also excellent at 1ms. This ensures that there will be little to no ghosting or blurring during gameplay. Furthermore, the input lag is also quite low, so you won’t experience any delays between your input and what appears on the screen.

Our Verdict for Office Use

With regards to office use, the ViewSonic VX2768-2KP-MHD is a great option. It has excellent peak brightness and wide viewing angles, which is perfect for those who need to view documents or spreadsheets from different angles. Additionally, the color accuracy is fairly decent, so you won’t have to worry about colors being inaccurate when working on important projects. However, one drawback is that the ergonomics are quite poor. The only adjustment you can make is tilting the screen, so it may be difficult to find a comfortable position if you’re using this monitor for long periods of time.
